Army National Guard Specialist Thomas Lanzoni of Lynn, MA is a veteran of the Iraq War who served one full tour and while serving his second tour was injured and sent for treatment at Walter Reed Hospital in DC. Mr. Lanzoni will walk from the MA / NY line (Lebanon) to Boston MA in a span of 10 days covering approximately 200 miles to raise money for Operation Troop Support operationtroopsupport@gmail.com and Building Homes For Heros. His goal is to raise $100,00 & split the donation between the two. Mr. Lanzoni is a husband and father of 7 children.
Mr. Lanzoni will start out on Rt. 9 and walk Rt. 20 (Hancock, Pittsfield, Windsor, Northampton, Amherst, Ware, Brookfield, Worcester, Shrewsbury, Framingham, Natick, Wellesley, Newton, Brookline to Boston. In Boston, he hopes to end with a closing ceremony on the State House Steps in Boston where Senator Kerry will meet him and help celebrate the finish of the walk.
- Friday, June 6th: Tom kicks off at the “Welcome to Massachusetts” sign at New Lebanon, NY. 8:30-9 AM at the West Pittsfield McDonald’s, and then 11:30 AM at “Hold the Anchovies” on 455 Dalton St in Pittsfield.
- Saturday, June 7th: Tom starts at the Old Creamery Grocery & Deli on Rt 9 in Cummington. Tom then passed through Williamsburg and Florence from 3-5 PM.
- Sunday, June 9th: Tom will be in Leeds in Northampton at 3:30 PM on his route through Hadley, Hatfield, Northampton and Amherst.
- Monday, June 9th: Tom is going to spend the hottest day of the heat wave in Amherst today writing up his experiences so far.
- Tuesday, June 10th: Tom will be in Ware at 4:30 at American Legion 123 on 45 Maple St, Ware.
- Wednesday, June 11th should find Tom in Spencer, Leicester and Worcester.
- Thursday, June 12th will find Tom in Grafton, Westborough and Southborough along Route 30.
- Friday, June 13th, Tom will end up in Natick.
- Saturday, June 14th: Tom leaves Natick, walks through Weston and ends up in Newton by 4:30 PM.
- Father’s Day, Sunday, June 15th: Tom leaves Newton and follows Commonwealth Avenue to Boston University, and then follows Newbury Street through the Public Gardens to finish at 3:00 PM at the State House steps on Beacon Hill, followed by a celebration on the Boston Common by Operation Troop Support.
